Your class teacher is: Miss Owens.
Your class teaching assistant is: Mrs McHale and Mrs Collings.
A warm welcome to our childen and parents. We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Thursday 5th January 2023.
Spring One: How do I get about?
Our class text for our English unit of work is 'Naughty Bus' written by Jane and Jerry Oke.
In addition to this unit of work, we will be exploring the enquiry question 'Where does the naughty bus come from?'. This will involve learning all about London and drawing on the similarities and differences between London and our local area. Children will gain an understanding as to where London is located on a map of the United Kingdom, learn the names of some famous London landmarks and will explore the different forms of transport available to travel around London. Children will also explore how transport has changed over time by comparing images of buses from the past to modern day buses.
Reception children will be continuing their daily phonics lessons. As a school we follow the 'Read, Write, Inc.' phonics programme. This half term we will focus on ensuring that children are confident in recognising and saying the sound that is represented by each letter or group of letters in set 1 'speed sounds'. Children will also begin to learn the 12 Set 2 'speed sounds' that are made up of two or three letters which represent just one sound, e.g. 'ay' as in play, 'ee' as in tree and 'igh' as in high. We will continue to practise our segmenting and blending so that we are able to zoom up our class reading rocket.
In maths, children will be mastering the numbers 1-10. We will continue to work on our counting skills and we will be able to recognise numbers 1-10 even when looking at different representations of these numbers. We will continue to work on subitising and developing our understanding of the composition of different numbers.
Please see the topic map below for a more in depth coverage of the whole curriculum.
