Autumn One - Local History Study (Bridgewater Canal)

How did the Bridgewater Canal change over time?

How did the Bridgewater Canal impact on the lives of the local people?

In history, we will start by exploring what a canal is and how and why they were built. We will also look at chronology through plotting a timeline of events (when the Bridgewater Canal was planned and built). This will lead into researching a significant person connected with the Bridgewater Canal and comparing the landscape (around Runcorn) from then and now. We will finish the unit of work by looking at the impact on the people in Runcorn, at that time. Our Design Technology unit will focus on food and nutrition this term - children to design, make and evaluate a nutritious sandwich for a person working on the Bridgewater Canal.

In English, we will be focusing on the text 'Seal Surfer' by Michael Foreman.

In Maths, we will be developing our knowledge of place value and then moving onto addition and subtraction.
